There was no easy way to get a snap without angular distortion or flash glare. So, i’ve used FD’s toys (finally) to create this collage of all four views.
The painting is just a doodle, more pleasure taken in the application of the paint than anything else. On paperboard, an application of acrylic gesso (in varying thicknesses and textures). While the gesso was still rather damp, i finger painted with a heavy body acrylic (tinted with fluid acrylics) mixed with Golden’s tar gel — what a wonderful feel to that paint! Then fluid gold acrylic with the fluid medium was washed over different sections.

I’ll finish up this roll sooner or later…..
On Friday we went to the local chain hardware, and i indulged myself on
I purchased a safety shield, which i appreciate because i can remember the sparks flying when i tried cutting coffee cans a long time ago. The current use, though, is when i’m grinding down the edges of the CDs. Last time, there was quite the spray of white plastic chips. I also purchased a very fine engraving cutter (105) appropriate for soft materials (like the CD plastic) and a 1/2″ drum sander (407) with extra bands of 60 grit. I should look for #432 — the fine grit bands.
One thing i’ve wanted to do is sand the enamel off Altoid tins in preparation for altering them. The coarse grit should help there, too.
On a whim, i bough a simple glass cutter. The widget’s packaging seemed a little cryptic, so i found this helpful page. And i also bought a 66 quart tub to hold yarn. Enough stash now, i think!
I have to admit that shopping at OSH was far more inspiring than clothes shopping this morning.
Cowl collar was becoming unstitched. I tried a simple mend once or twice, but it kept coming unstitched elsewhere. Finally, i made and then added this trim. I expect it will rarely be seen as the cowl is huge, but it will look kinda cute when it is visible.

A stressful weekend was ameliorated by working with the “fancy fur” — an eyelash plus boucle yarn. The stitches are impossible to see in the riot of yarn, so it was impossible to be a perfectionist.
And as evidence of the imperfection comes to light, i tuck the loose loops back in.
I wanted something that would keep the chill off my shoulders when i read in bed. It’s a somewhat shaped piece, fanning out over the shoulders and then fanning down from the yolk that the shoulder pieces made.
This photo is shows the results from two skeins of Lion Fancy Fur in “northern lights” with a big hook. (The red one. Hmmm.) From almost two skeins of the “purple passion” i made a very simple scarf.
A little more painting today — heavy blobs of gel medium with hansa yellow gel and just a drop or two of the magenta gel. While the gel medium has a white, semi opaque quality when wet, when dried it’s crystal clear. So the streak in the textured area dries up to be dark magenta peaks and the yellow is more subtle.
I’ve taken the painting Joy and have applied a white gesso over much of the surface, scraping away some to reveal the dark, original painting. It’s almost a grisaille technique.
The next stage was adding the blues and greens. I’ve added more texture, which surprised me — i’m surprised to find myself wanting the effect. I ended up using my fingers — i’ve more control, and was able to remove the texture of the brush strokes and get a more smooth surface in some of the more gel-rich sections. I love the blue, but plan on this being more green. I’ll do some glazing in yellow next.
