Paw Prints

This year I’m going to do NaNoWriMo. I have no expectation of success, I have just as good an excuse as I had last year (if not even better — crazed project deadlines at work) but what’s the most awful outcome? I only get a few hours worth of writing done towards a story that’s been rattling around in my head?

From a test today, it seems i need twenty four days of writing for at least an hour and a half to meet the 50,000 word goal. I’m dividing the outline into twenty four sections as i want eight “chapters.” Emma has a “hidden calendar game” in which many events correspond to thefolk-festival-church and calendar year. I’ve found that intriguing since reading the novel, and have wanted to write this work around the eight spokes of the wheel of the year.

(As i reread a plot summary, i imagine that my main character will be in some ways an anti-Emma. )

Much of the evening was spent trying to get the full resolution image to print on our Deskjet through the Airport Express. Turns out, the Airport Express seems to prevent full images from printing. (Color excel spreadsheets print just fine.) I’d hoped that the Airport Express, by providing an IP address for the deskjet and the air-whatever access to the speakers would end the stretching of USB cables across the room to our different machines (except for the scanner).

But no.

It’s been a very long time since i played with HTML. October of 2003 i really dug in to CSS for a day in order to make some HTML reports for work. And that’s been it.

In the past few weeks, i’ve mainly been using our digital camera. I regret that i did not pack the camera accesibly on our flight east, because the views from the plane around Houston at sunset were magnificent. (I would have likely taken some of those blue-cast photos of Lake Powell, too.)

Once we were in North Carolina, i was almost obsessive. I took almost two hundred photos of the preparations for Laura & Todd’s wedding. Thirty document Mom’s work on their wedding cake. In the math of photography, quantity eventually begets quality, and there are some well done photos. The album retains many photos of less than ideal quality, though, for their documentary value.

I also shot a round of photos when i walked home, my first day back to work. The fennel, cat tails, and thistles were lovely; the snowy egret was not cooperative. I restrained myself from picking a bouquet for my dining room and made up for it with photos.
