I posted this question in the Crochet Me forum:
One of the most interesting things about learning to crochet recently is that i’m also learning how i learn. I realize most of the things i’ve learned in the past decade have either been “people skills” or have built on things i already knew.
Crochet doesn’t really build on anything.
I’m beginning to think it was a miracle i picked up Kooler’s Encyclopedia of Crochet. The emphasis on general skills and the clear photos of stitches have delighted me and inspired me. I find myself just making up my own patterns.
I know i have a ways to practice before i move to making sweaters. (Also, the baby blanket i’m making will take forever with the fine, loosely twisted yarn i chose. *Sigh*) I am, already imagining what i want in a book about sweaters, though — i want an encyclopedia of sweater design and an emphasis on charts.
I really like the charts. I find that so much more easy to understand that the instructions.
The book, “Modular Crochet: A Revolutionary New Method for Creating Custom-Design Pullovers” by Judith Copeland, as described at Amazon sounds like a start on what i want, but i also want to do cardigans — i want to different style collars and plackets and sleave sets and cuffs ….
Anyone have any favorite sweater books to review?
