Crochet and other altered dresses: babydoll or empire bodice research

This was going to be a longer post, but i ended up posting it as a query to a Crochet Me forum.

I’ve been thinking about a couple dresses i wanted to remake with crochet. First i thought of cutting them up and making a purse, like in this pattern. I’m learning how time consuming the cutting up step is, though, in a number of other projects. And i realize i really like working with thin yarn and steel hooks.

So, then i ran across an article about refitting clothes. The years of commuting after years of walking to work removed one dress from “it fits,” and the other was from high school. In both cases i understand that if i lifted the long skirt up, i’d have the ease needed. A crocheted bodice and the lifted full skirt would at least be fun to wear around the house.

This blog entry about the upcoming Crochet Me book got my attention. The bodice is almost what i imagine — except i’d really like to have a button front or lace up front bodice.

Any ideas as to where a good pattern for a button up or lace up bodice might be found?
