First Annual Blogger Bioblitz

I have been too busy with GIS to spend much time on the creek, but this celebration of species, the First Annual Blogger Bioblitz looks like a perfect engagement opportunity.

About GRASS GIS

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

One of the homework assignments for my GIS class is to “explore in detail one ‘brand’ of GIS software and report back on your findings to the class.” Since there were some out of date references made to GRASS GIS, and since i’d already done a little research to implement it at home over the summer, i thought i’d continue with that research and make it more widely available. I must admit that, as usual, the web resources are somewhat sprawling, so a quick overview seemed worth posting even though one is, as expected, well provided by Wikipedia. My review does have a bit more information on OS X implementations of GRASS.

Links for this summary can be found at http://del.icio.us/judielaine/GEOG012:GRASS. I’ll eventually be adding the GRASS tutorials as i find them.

Anti-Spam Actions

Let’s see. Four blogs in various states of use: curious, words, PawPrints, & RWO. Only on one (PawPrints) do i really wish to engage in any discourse at this time.

RWO: leave as is until upgrade. Probably “suffers” from the 0 links settting.
Words: Set for no comments, no track backs, all must be approved (if i change settings on a by-post basis for some reason).
Curious: allow links & track backs, but require moderator approval.

Paw Prints: allow links, track backs. Comment author must fill out name and email. 1 link. Spam words. Turned on Akismet with WordPress.com key.

Note that setting the “more than this number of links” to zero sends all comments to moderation.
