I’m interested in the Bush line in the Early County area of Georgia, which begins with Judge James Bush [22 p PDF] (24 Jan 1792 – 10 Nov 1869). Beyond that are some questions about his father, William Bush. Did William marry Mourning? James’ tombstone says he did. Was William the son of Catherine Franck? As James was the nephew of General David Blackshear, it would seem that was the case.
My father traces to that paternal (yDNA) line and is a participant in the Bush DNA Surname Project.
I’m also interested in the Huggins line that we track to Asa Huggins, born in 1802, Laurens County, SC. My grandfather is participating in the Hodgens DNA Surname Project as well as the Laurens County, South Carolina DNA project.
Currently, my main tools are GenealogyJ (because i love data entry power to the point of overcoming the multitude of UI infelicities), MacFamily Tree, and Ancestry.com.
You may find more posts on the subject here. I blog about genealogy more often when it touches on digital library tools or geospatial visualization.
