New Mac Troubleshooting

I’ve a new (refurbished, late 2008) MacBook Pro and have a number of issues with it. This post is to track my troubleshooting on a few issues.

Both Macs were running 10.5.8.

One of the many suspicions of hardware instability that led me to the new MBP, was a series of Grey Screens of Death. I also suspected 10.5.8 :

Since upgrading, it’s happened once as i tried pairing a bluetooth headset. The suspicion the grey screen of death is associated with the 10.5.8 upgrade returned.

Can’t View Trash

The trash can icon in the dock displays the “has trash” version, but the context click|Open option doesn’t seem to do anything. Emptying works. I can view contents from the command line. The permissions are the same as in the working machine.

[pennyroyal:~] judielaine% ls -dltra .Trash/
drwx------ 13 judielaine staff 442 Sep 23 08:15 .Trash/
[pennyroyal:~] judielaine% ls -dltra /Volumes/Mandrirror/Users/blondie/.Trash/
drwx------ 2 judielaine staff 68 Sep 16 07:30 /Volumes/.../.Trash/

Ack! it just started working! >_<
