Bait Stations Near La Avenida Trailhead
I’m feeling terribly guilty about how long it took me to stop and really study these green “traps” on the levee. I had paused long enough one day to know that they were “traps” for rats. For some reason — perhaps my reading comprehension isn’t so good when i’m out of breath? — I thought they were some sort of trap. I could understand a study to see if, say, rats and ground squirrels were digging up the levees (even if it seemed there was little activity along those lines).
Discovering that they are “bait stations” is rather distressing, as i contemplate the food chain.
I’ve contacted Santa Clara Valley Water District staff and Santa Clara County Vector Control. I hope to hear soon. I’ll report as soon as i do.
My expectation is that if the county or water district placed these, they did so after an environmental impact analysis. If, say, a contractor hired by the nearby trailer park placed them, it’s far less likely that it’s a legal placement.
