Cedar Waxwing

Originally uploaded by Elaine with Grey Cats.

I finally had Roll2007.06 developed. And picked up. And read the CD to my computer. It’s a very birdy roll with gold finch, sparrow and Florida ospreys. The osprey photos are neat, and i note that had i had the telephoto to zoom in on the nest, i would never have caught the images in flight. There appears to be a great deal of grain in these photos. I don’t know if i could do better scanning in the images myself.

Photo management thoughts

So, yay, i’ve the CD, index print, and negatives all promptly loaded in to the binder. Lots of retrospective filing to do, but i’m very happy with the system.

I think, too, that i’ve got a handle on how to use iPhoto. This time, i took the images from the CD and loaded the preview scale images in the 2007Photo image repository. Then, i went through the “original” scale images with Preview and cropped the ones that needed cropping. I did some pruning of out of focus images as well. Sometimes i saved the crops “over” the preview scale, sometimes i saved them with a “crop” suffix. I know JPGs are lossy, and that the Preview crop tool may not be the best tool in the world, but i think this is an efficient use of disk space. Cropping full scale images in iPhoto keeps a backup copy, which is unnecessary with the CD.

All the previous 2007 rolls have the preview scale images loaded directly into iPhoto. I’m not sure if i’ll delete and reload them in this manner. I’ll probably adapt this workflow for the new camera, though. I can’t believe i’m beginning to fill up the laptop, but between the geospatial data sets and the seven megapixel camera, i do have suspects.

See the Flickr Image http://www.grey-cat.com/ATC/index.php/see-the-flickr-image/ http://www.grey-cat.com/ATC/index.php/see-the-flickr-image/#comments Mon, 14 May 2007 06:10:13 +0000 judielaine http://www.grey-cat.com/ATC/?p=367 It’s a different sort of digital image, but it’s still fun to work with (except when one mis-copies digits in calculations).

In other news, i finished off the lingering roll of film yesterday (Roll2007.06, i think.) with some telephoto images of a goldfinch. I should remember to use shutter speed priority when using the telephoto.

I’m loading Roll2007.07 — Kodak HD4 24 400/27° — to have ready for the next bird opportunity that comes along.

[I don't know why the post-from-Flickr failed.]

Green shell necklace & bracelet

Originally uploaded by Elaine with Grey Cats.

Christine mentioned she needed some green and purple earrings to go with some of her outfits recently. When i passed a rack of beads at the craft store, i had an excuse to browse. Note that i’ve made a bracelet and necklace but not quite the earrings.

The bracelet is a little large and a less graceful that ideal — i rushed it. But i can’t manage leaving projects dangling around these days.

I also shot a handful of frames from Roll2007.06, lingering in my camera from our trip to Florida in late February. A flock of Cedar Waxwings was feeding on the eucalyptus blossoms yesterday afternoon, and they’re back this morning. I think i can smell the honeyed scent of nectar this morning — surely that’s a jasmine somewhere and not the eucalyptus. Yet watching the birds feed on the pompom blossoms, it seems they should have a wonderful scent.

Roll2007 Film notes! http://www.grey-cat.com/ATC/index.php/roll2007-film-notes/ http://www.grey-cat.com/ATC/index.php/roll2007-film-notes/#comments Tue, 27 Feb 2007 18:45:06 +0000 judielaine http://www.grey-cat.com/ATC/?p=351 On our recent trip i started my first rolls of 2007 (January wrapped up the last roll of 2006).

Roll2007.01 * Kodak 400 * 2007-02-24 * Landry’s in Tampa for Grandmámá’s 90th
Roll2007.02 * Kodak 400 * 2007-02-25 * Tarpon Springs and Manatees
Roll2007.03 * Kodak BW400CN * 2007-02-25 & 26 * Tarpon Springs & Honeymoon Island
Roll2007.04 * Kodak Select Royal Gold 200 * 2007-02-26 * Honeymoon Island
Roll2007.05 * Kodak 400 * 2007-02-26 * Honeymoon Island

[I think i shot some of Roll2007.06 on this trip, Kodak 400. Only development will tell -- 2007-05-14]

While in Tampa i purchased “Kodak 400 24 exp,” five rolls i think. I shot three rolls. (These aren’t marked Gold or anything like that.) $11.79

I shot a roll of very old Kodak Select Royal Gold 200 (24). I think this was film that “expired” in 2002. This roll was mainly Honeymoon Island, i think.

I also purchased a roll of BW400CN Kodak Professional film for B&W prints, “process C41 only.” I loaded this while we were on the boat tour and finished it on Honeymoon Island. $4.99
